Production of Lipid-based Functional Ingredients from Rice Bran Oil By-products

Technology Overview

Rice bran is a rich source of fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals. However, during the processing of rice bran oil, large quantities of valuable substances, including purified rice bran wax, policosanol, gamma oryzanol, phytosterol, ferulic acid, and ethyl ferulate, are lost as by-products. These substances possess immense potential for use as functional ingredients across various industries.

The Lipid Technology Laboratory at KMUTT has developed extensive expertise in lipid and fatty acid extraction and profiling utilizing gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography techniques, enabling the recovery of these high-value compounds from rice bran oil by-products.

Key Features & Benefits

KMUTT introduces a simple and scalable technology for the recovery of lipid-based functional ingredients from rice bran oil by-products. These functional ingredients are valuable compounds with applications in the fields of functional foods and cosmetics.
